Weber State men’s basketball’s impressive non-conference home schedule is starting to crystallize with the release of its marquee home game.
BYU announced it will visit the Dee Events Center on Dec. 1 as the Cougars released their non-conference schedule Thursday. The game time and television information will be announced at a later date.
Weber State has yet to release its 2018-19 schedule but four games, plus a tournament, are known from its non-conference slate.
MORE WEBER STATE
WSU is set to host both Fresno State, who has a new head coach in former San Diego State assistant Justin Hutson, and Utah Valley, which recently signed its head coach Mark Pope to a contract extension. The dates of those games are yet to be determined.
The Wildcats will play Utah State in a neutral-site Beehive Classic game on Dec. 8 at Vivint Smart Home Arena. They also play in the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas. The Wildcats play San Jose State on Nov. 15 in that tournament, then will face Cal State Bakersfield or Central Michigan on Nov. 16 or 17, and play the other on Nov. 18.
BYU beat Weber State 74-68 last year in the Beehive Classic. The Cougars are 33-10 all-time against the Wildcats and posses a 15-game winning streak against Weber State.
The last time WSU hosted BYU at the Dee Events Center was in December 2014, a 16-point Cougars win in front of a crowd of 10,122.
Recently reinstated BYU guard Nick Emery will miss the Weber State game, since he’s suspended the first nine games of the 2018-19 season due to NCAA sanctions stemming from an investigation into impermissible benefits. Emery’s suspension expires in time for him to return to play Utah State and Utah.
BYU finished 24-11 last year and lost to Stanford in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament. The Cougars lost junior guard Elijah Bryant, who turned professional, but returns rising junior big man Yoeli Childs, who briefly flirted with turning pro.
Weber State finished last season 20-11 after losing in the Big Sky quarterfinals and forgoing postseason invites. The Wildcats return seniors Zach Braxton and Brekkott Chapman, as well as junior scoring phenom Jerrick Harding.
